Easy Cable Beanie

Hi, Hello, and Good Morning!

This is my go to beanie pattern when I want something simple, but looks fancy. Cables can be a bit daunting, but once you get the hang of them, you're going to love them. The alternating Knit and Purl motifs make it insanely stretchy! The folded brim also keeps your ears so toasty warm!

Supplies needed

~50grams DK weight Yarn of Choice

US8 Circular Needles

A Stitch marker

A Cable needle, or DPN of a smaller size (I use a US3)

A tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)

Key

k  - - - Knit

p  - - - Purl

C4F  - - - Place two stitches on cable needle, hold to Front of work, Knit two stitches on working needle, knit two stitches on Cable Needle, continue pattern.

C4B  - - - Place two stitches on cable needle, hold to Back of work, Knit two stitches on working needle, knit two stitches on Cable Needle, continue pattern.

k2tog  - - - Knit 2 stitches together

Instructions

1. Cast on 101 Stitches using German Twisted Cast On (or preferred cast on method)

2. Being Careful not to twist your yarn, Slip first stitch over to working needle and pull one stitch over that stitch. This completes your round and prevents a gap forming at the round. 100 stitches on needles

2a. If you make it a round or two and realize your work is twisted you have two options:

  1. Frog the work and start over. This is what I do if its a gift, but if it's for me;
  2. Untwist the work at the beginning of the round and continue as usual. You will have a small barely noticeable twist in the work. To me, It adds character and if you're out wearing it and werking it, it'll just be fashion.

3. Knit 22 rounds in K2, P2. This will make a perfectly cozy folded brim.

4. Knit 4 rounds k1, p2, k4, p2, k1 (10 repeats on the round)

5. Knit 1 round k1, p2, C4F, p2, k2, p2, C4B, p2, k1 (repeat 5 times)

Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you are satisfied with the length. For mine, I usually repeat 8 times.

6. Knit 1 round k1, p2, k4, p1, k2tog (10 times) 90 stitches remain

7. Knit 1 round k1, p2, k4, p1, k1 (10 times)

8. Knit 1 round k1, p2, k4, k2tog (10 times) 80 stitches remain

9. Knit 1 round k1, p2, k4, k1 (10 times)

10. Knit 1 round k1, p2, k3, k2tog (10 times) 70 stitches remain

11. Knit 1 round k1, p2, k2, k2tog (10 times) 60 stitches remain

12. Knit 1 round k1, p2, k1, k2tog (10 times) 50 stitches remain

13. Knit 1 round k1, p2, k2tog (10 times) 40 stitches remain
