Cassandra was a princess of Troy, Daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba, Sister to Hector and Paris. Her long red hair and beautiful face drew the attention of a god. Apollo chased Cassandra, pursuing the mortal for his own lover. He sent her gifts to prove his affection, most notably the divine gift of Prophecy, all in hopes that he could claim this mortal for himself.

However, Cassandra had no intention to give herself up to a god. No matter the advances, promises, or divine gifts she was given, she held her morals and refused the god.

Apollo became furious. Being a god, he was not used to being refused, especially by a mortal. So in a fit of rage, he cursed her. He could take away the Gift of Prophecy he had bestowed her with, however he could make it so, while her prophecies would be accurate, they would never be believed. With this curse, he finally left Cassandra alone.

Before Paris left to visit Sparta, Cassandra warned her brother that if he returned with Helen, the city of Troy would be destroyed. Paris ignored his sister and brought Helen back as his wife, thus starting the Trojan War.

Cassandra tried again to warn her people and prevent her own prophecy from becoming true by telling anyone who would listen that the great wooden horse left at their gates was full of Greek soldiers. That it was a trick.

No one paid her any mind and she watched as her city was pillaged by the Greeks thus bringing an end to the war and the destruction of Troy.
