Sylvia Rivera is a less common name that arrives to mind when thinking of the Stonewall Riots and early Gay Rights Activism. And while she wasn't present at the start of the riots, she was sure to push and make a name for herself.

Rivera founded STAR, Street Transvestites Action Revolutionaries, alongside Johnson. Her voice was often heard calling for the rights of gay people, but also pushing for drag queens and trans people to be included in the movements.

On the 4 Year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, the Queer community held the Christopher Street Liberation Day Rally; Christopher Street being the street the Stonewall Inn is on. Rivera took to the stage where she was met by Boos and Dissent. In her speech, she reminds the crowd that the gay bars they enjoy only exist because of the work of drag queens. It's an incredible speech that I highly recommend all modern queer folk listen to, and remember.

She remained an activist for the rest of her life. Giving speeches about Stonewall and the Beginning of the modern Gay Rights Movements. She was involved in the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power, ACT UP, in the 1990s. In 2000 she traveled to Italy for World Pride where she was referred to as the "Mother of all Gay People." Even trying to resurrect STAR, adopting the newly coined term Transgender to the acronym. Rivera often backed any legislation within and beyond New York, and attacked queer organizations, like the Human Rights Campaign, when their messaging excluded transgender rights.

On February 19, 2002, Rivera met within the Empire State Pride Agenda delegates to advocate for trans rights at St. Vincent's Hospital where she was being treated for complications from liver cancer. She passed away later that day.

Wet block when finished working. Some color bleeding may happen on first wash.

The yarn is dyed in the same pot, but that by no means promises they will each take the dye the same. If you are making a large project, please feel free to reach out and I can work with you to ensure the yarn you get is from the same dyelot, or dye them special for you. I want to ensure your product turns out as beautifully as you imagine it!

Studio is not pet-free, cats and dogs are present. I try my best to avoid their contact with product, but alas. They are powerful beings.

Handwash with wash of your choice, lay flat to dry.
